MY 7 DAYS IN UKRAINE

Hello to everyone! If you noticed, I have been away for the past 7 days. I have spent them in my motherland- Ukraine. It was a very short stay, limited even more by the road trip I had to make from our capital Kiev to my city in the south of Ukraine- 8 hours by bus!
However, I did manage to meet my good old childhood and school friends, have a few photoshoots for Lookbook, see my dear granddad and cousin, and obviously purchase some handmade priceless items, as well as FABRICS and cosmetics (including some new nail-polish colours)! :D
The weather was beautiful and I was lucky to get some rain on me! I will be posting all these photos later on, till now you may enjoy these few Instagram pics taken by iPhone! :)

View from my balcony. It’s like I live on a tree! :)

While riding the bus from Kiev to my city, it was raining and looking extremely beautiful outside!

A typical Ukrainian scenery- endless fields disappearing into the horizon, and fantastic cloud prints in the sky!

A little bit of food! These are called Zefir and I think are made of egg whites, sugar and some other ingredients. They are in a way similar to marshmallows, except for being less chewy. And that’s my new lilac nail-polish! ;)

New Blazer- DIY!

I have finally completed my Floral suit! If you remember, I finished these pretty floral shorts a couple of weeks ago. The floral fabric has been with me for a couple of years and originally belonged to my mum.      However, as she could not decide what she wanted, I took over!
Both, shorts and jacket, are designs from my beloved BURDA magazine, with some editions of my own.

If you notice, I added lace ribbons on the hem of the shorts and on the pockets of the jacket.
Another change I made to the jacket was adding 7 buttons, instead of 5. The buttons are beautiful and I have a lot of them, so seemed like a waste to use only 5.

And below you can see a close-up of the buttons I have used. They are vintage and were given to me by my granddad- he had a lot of old buttons left from my grandmothers, so this was a great way of utilizing them!

All these photos are posted on my Instagram: @susannavesna (SusannaVesna).
Also they could be found on my new blog: Susanna Vesna
Please don't forget to check out my new blog and follow me there, as I will be more active on that domain!

Frida Kahlo- Mexican Icon

Sometimes, after surfing the internet you get inspired by unexpected things. Well, actually not very unexpected- Frida Kahlo is a renown Mexican artist who painted her reality, which despite being very colourful, most of the time carried a message of great internal pain and loneliness. I am not a big fan of "surrealistic" paintings (although Frida herself stated that her creations didn't belong to that particular art movement), so I would rather concentrate on Frida's style itself. Being greatly disadvantaged by unfortunate injuries & accidents, she draped herself in colourful and very folk clothes, adding signature scarves or flowers into her braids and hair.
These are a few photos of Frida herself, her self-portrait and a tribute to her by a modern artist & photographer Atelier Olschinsky. (For full photoshoot, click here and here)

Salma Hayek has portrayed Frida Kahlo in a 2002 movie Frida.
